Its name says it all: the Vienna blue rabbit comes from Austria. Not only is it beautiful with its shiny blue-grey...
ARE RABBITS VACCINATED AGAINST RABIES?
INTRODUCTION
Rabies is a potentially fatal disease caused by a virus that attacks the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). Infected mammals can transmit the rabies virus to humans and other mammals. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal.
WHAT ANIMALS CAN GIVE RABIES TO RABBITS?
Rabies is most common among wild animals such as raccoons, bats, skunks and foxes, but all mammals (such as dogs) can be infected with the rabies virus.
CAN RABBITS BECOME INFECTED AND DEVELOP RABIES?
Because a rabbit attacked by a wild animal or a dog will most likely not come out alive, it is extremely rare that they can become infected or develop the disease.
DO I HAVE TO VACCINATE MY RABBIT AGAINST RABIES?
No, rabbits cannot and do not have to be vaccinated against rabies, it is not a vaccine which is suitable for them and does not have any type of benefit in this case.
CONCLUSION
In some Latin American countries we can see vets who insist on vaccinating rabbits against rabies, if this happens to us we should refuse and look for another vet.
