Canine curiosities

The Rottweiler is a molosser-type dog breed originating in Germany, although it was also used in ancient Rome. It was known as the ‘Rottweil butcher dog’ - in German: Rottweiler Metzgerhund - because it was used to protect and herd livestock and pull butcher's carts loaded with meat, together with other products for the market.

The Great Dane combines in his aristocratic general appearance a large and well endowed build. His height can reach 2.10 m on two legs; his best qualities are faithfulness, pride, strength and elegance. Intimidating to the naked eye, but in almost all cases an excellent companion dog, providing affection for his masters.

The Boxer is a molosser dog of German origin, originating from a breed that was used as a guard dog. It is a cross between the English bulldog and the German bullenbeisser. This dog was originally used as a hunting dog, a fighting dog and later as a military and police dog.

The black Russian terrier (Russian: Чёёрный терьер), nicknamed ‘Stalin's dog’, is a breed of dog traditionally used as a watchdog and police dog. It is rare to find dogs of this breed outside its country of origin and its recognition in other countries has only just begun.

The Dutch Smoushond (Dutch Smoushond, Hollandse Smoushond or Dutch Ratter) is a small-sized breed of dog descended from German and Dutch terrier-type dogs that were kept in stables to eliminate rats and mice. Related to the Schnauzer, they are rare and little known outside the Netherlands, their country of origin. They are referred to as Dutch to avoid confusion with the Belgian Griffon, which has similar characteristics.

The Miniature Schnauzer is a small dog with a big personality. He is loyal, lively, intelligent, affectionate and cheerful. His combination of calmness and liveliness makes him well adapted to all kinds of situations and families.

The Standard Schnauzer or Medium Schnauzer is the medium-sized version of the German Schnauzer breed of dog. Being the first to exist of the three varieties of Schnauzer, and despite its coat and general appearance, it is not related to the English terriers.

The Danish and Swedish farm dog is a breed that perfectly combines calmness and liveliness. That said, their high activity levels must be met in order to have a nice, quiet time on the couch.
